Join Us in Helping Villages Devastated by Hurricane John
HURRICANE JOHN DROPPED 37 INCHES OF RAIN OVER 5 DAYS, CAUSING WIDESPREAD FLOODING AND DAMAGE
The mountain village of El Tamarindo was completely flooded and, as of this bulletin, its inhabitants are unreachable due to its road being washed out. Currently, they are without power or Internet access.
The village of Las Lomitas also suffered flooding. According to posts by local residents, attempts are being made to reach church members to conduct safety checks.
The Tres Palos church was flooded with about two feet of water and mud, which they are now busy cleaning up. All the music equipment was recovered undamaged. The bedroom and living room furniture from Pastor Carlos’ home was lost.
Rena church was also inundated with several feet of water and mud. Fortunately, the church’s equipment was safely stored above the flood level. Cleaning up operations are presently underway.
Llano Largo was hit the worst. Six feet of water, traveling at river speed, coursed through the village, striking the church’s outer front wall, destroying a section of it along with a large section of the back wall. Everything inside the church appears to be ruined, including all music and sound equipment.
The village of Puerto Marques was hit very hard, with high water obliterating the road in several places and causing more than ten restaurants, some two-stories high, to come tumbling down. The church was flooded as well, however due to prevailing conditions, Pastor Santiago hasn’t been able to get to it in order to the assess damage.
Total damage from this hurricane may be as high as or exceed $15,000.
Damage to Puerto Marques’ roof from Hurricane Otis is still ongoing.
Many church members’ homes have been partially or completely flooded.
